He was instrumental in the FBI probe of Columbia/HCA as a confidential undercover informant and served as a key witness in the successful criminal prosecution of the company, resulting in a civil settlement of more than $1.7 billion. The inside story about being a whistleblower

This book is an entertaining, fast paced, eye-opening look into the process of being a whistleblower. While it should be interesting to all, it is a must read for anyone that has thought of filing a False Claims Act case, or anyone that has already filed a case. True insights into how the process actually works, and situations and problems that can arise when it doesn't are enlightening. Thankfully there are people out there like Mr. Schilling that risk it all to do the right thing and stop companies from stealing the hard earned tax dollars of the American people.

Tedious Working of What Should Be Fascinating

While Schilling's underlying story is fascinating, his writing style and focus on dry legalistic details leave one's eyes glazed over. He likely could have cut the book's length down from 250 pages to 100 pages without leaving anything crucial out. The author goes over courtroom proceedings in agonizing detail, prompting this reader to almost abandon the book several times. His story of the greed and amorality at the heart of the for-profit hospital industry is an important one. Sad that it couldn't have been presented in a more captivating way.

Charles P. Henry examines Americans’unwillingness to confront this economic injustice, and crafts a skillful moral, political, economic, and historical argument for African American reparations, focusing on successful political cases.

In the wake of recent successes in South Africa and New Zealand, new models for reparations have recently found traction in a number of American cities and states, from Dallas to Baltimore and Virginia to California. By looking at other dispossessed groups — Native Americans, Holocaust survivors, and Japanese internment victims in the 1940s — Henry shows how some groups have won the fight for reparations.

As Hurricane Katrina made apparent, the legacy of racial segregation and economic disadvantage is never far below the surface in America.
