Good look at Peter

I wanted to do a series of lessons on the life of Peter. This book was a good help. It wasn't a harmony of the accounts, but I thought the individual portraits of Peter were well analyzed. I've only read half of the book so far, but it's good for critical study and for practical, pastoral study, as well.

Brief, very well-written biographies of a host of men and women who can be termed 'living Gospels.' Devoid of the antiquated, stale, narrative form found in such compendiums as Butler's Lives of the Saints, these profiles engage the reader in the vibrancy of spiritual life, commitment and often heroism. I look forward to sharing them with our weekday Mass attendees.

About the Author

Kelly Bulkeley is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, and is a former President of the Association for the Study of Dreams. His books include The Wilderness of Dreams: Exploring the Religious Meanings of Dreams in Modern Western Culture; An Introduction to the Psychology of Dreaming; Visions of the Night: Dreams, Religion, and Psychology; and The Wondering Brain: Thinking about Religion with and beyond Cognitive Neuroscience.

World class survey of dreaming in the major religions of the world

Dr. Kelly Bulkeley has written a world class survey of dreaming in the major religions of the world. This book is potentially as ground-breaking as those by Dr. Huston Smith. Dr. Bulkeley speaks to our common humanity and how the human reality of dreaming is incorporated in the various streams of faith. A must read for anyone interested in dreams, world religious, or dialoging across cultures.

Fascinating Dreams in Religion

A very detailed guide to dreams in religion, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, religions of Africa, and Native American religions. Fascinating examples! You learn a great deal about the religion as well as the dreams. What was most interesting to me was in learning about how Christianity has suppressed interest in dreams.

Innovative book about the role of dreaming in primitive and modern cultures.

Brilliant author with great humility about what he knows and doesn't know about the role of dreaming in our collective lives, historically and prospectively. I had the great pleasure of his speaking in a class at Harvard Divinity School. He is a wise and learned man, who is not over-impressed with his own talents.
